Abstract
“RESTAGE" (2020) is a short film co-directed by Rebecca Fitton and Naomi Saito. The film examines the intersections between geographic place, Asian American identity, and self-initiated archival practices. As a result, “RESTAGE” allows Fitton to contribute to the Asian American diaspora’s archive, challenge the entrenched ways in which documentation is sourced and shared, and ultimately narrate a re-orientation of what it means to be Asian in America. The film explores an experimental, non-linear approach to performance documentation, open captioning, and features footage from Fitton’s embodied research practice over the course of three years.
